Air Support

When I read Alex’s post about drones patrolling this place called Ol Pejeta Conservancy which holds many different types of animals like the black rhino. In result, Ol Pejeta needed a way to prevent animal poachers so they can keep their animals safe. This is because of how big their land is and how many animals they own and how little workers/rangers they have. At first, they thought of putting some sort of tracking device into their animals. However, there were some cons with that plan. Like every 2 years that found have to change the battery in the tracking device. So, they came up with a new plan to have drones watch over the sanctuary instead of people. Do you think this is a good idea? Or do you think there is a better way?

  1. I think that at the current time that the drone is the best way to monitor the preserve but it is also very expensive at over 70,000 USD. It may have made sense for the Ol Pejeta reserve to buy a drone but what if it crashes into the Savannah? Then they would be down 70 grand and they could have problems successfully monitoring the reserve if the they had been mainly using the drone. Also what if a smaller reserve wanted to buy a drone at over 350 square kilometers the drone easily has enough space to land and fly but what if the drone only had to monitor a small area where human rangers couldn't get to. Although it might the best option for the Ol Pejeta reserve at this time there are many other ways that the reserve could be monitored. So what do you think should the Ol Pejeta reserve have bought a 70 thousand dollar drone?

  2. I think this is a perfect idea; my blog was on the exact same thing! Animals like rhinos need to be protected from poachers. This drones are super helpful because they can go farther the human can and see from a higher area! People don’t stay up 24/7, but drones go for along time with almost no brakes, so when they catch a poacher at night, they can alert the poacher defense to take them down! Any one else have anything to say!
