Elephants are Endangered :(

I recently read my friend Reyna's post about endangered Elephants. I went deeper into this topic focusing on how the elephants were killed and their tusks were taken and sold. But a little bit about the animal. The African elephant is the largest land walking animal on earth. They can be found in 37 countries in Africa and one third of the African elephants population is made out of forest elephants. Neverless; poachers kill elephants for their tusks which can be sold in many forms such as jewelery, knifes, sculptures, and more. For one thing, these poachers sell the tusks for up to 150 dollars per inch which is a very high price (considering tusks are several feet long; one tusk could be several thousand dollars). As a result, this is becoming a bigger problem every day and we need to address it and take action to save the elephants from becoming gone forever.

Do you think that this is a serious problem that the USA should help stop?

  1. I think that it's horrible that elephants are being killed and everyone who can should help. Animals are so large and it would be horrible if they were killed to extinction, People don't need elephant tusks, they only sell them so they can have money. There are only 410,000-650,000 elephants left in Africa, and if people keep poaching them for their horns, they will be extinct in a number of years, because about 30,000 elephants are being killed each year, and that number could easily go up. I think the USA and anyone else who can help should try to stop elephant poaching.

  2. I think that it's terrible that people are killing the elephants and we should do every thing we can to help. The elephants are huge beautiful creatures and it would be horrible if they went extinct. I think that if the poachers needed the tusks( which they don't) they should wait until the elephants die then take the tusks. It would be a kinder way to get the tusks of these amazing animals. In the 1980's 100,000 elephants were being killed a year. Although thankfully the government put a ban on poaching elephants so, the rates for killing the animals went down. In conclusion I think that we should all help these astonishing animals.

  3. wow i cant believe people actually do this for money. They can make money by making clothes etc. Elephants are beautiful creatures. But its a good thing they have drones in Africa so the elephants don't have to be extinct. Plus people don't even use the meat or anything they just shoot the poor animal and just leave the body there i think that is so said i wish there was justice for these poor defenseless animals.
