Elephants

When I first heard that people were killing elephants over their tusk I thought it was wrong. All I could think is "why do they have to kill them just get a part of them that they can live without, why couldn't they just saw them off?' I later realized that it would be putting the elephants through unbearable pain. Ivory is worth $250 per pound (as of 2011) which is a lot elephants tusk can weigh 20-135 pounds so you can be making $5000- $33700 per elephant of tusk alone. Trading could be good for the economy but terrible for the animal. In Africa alone they're are 470,000-690,000 elephants left. I think they should track elephants the elephants and wait for them to die then take the tusk.  what do you think about this?

  1. I think that you're right. Killing animals for money are horrible and not worth the money. This may sound weird, but imagine if animals were killing humans for money. What if they were killing you for your thumb when they could just bite it off or something. I wish people would understand that there's no point in murdering animals for money. I read that at least 250,000 elephants were illegally killed in 2012. If the rate of the slaughter continues, scientists expect elephants to extinct in 8-10 years.

  4. "An elephant’s tusks are both a blessing and curse. Blessing because they give a sense of true majesty that rise them above other animals as well and being of use for various tasks. A curse because man’s avarice for ivory has led to the senseless slaughter of hundreds of thousands of the magnificent animals." - EleAid.com said. In other words the tusks make elephants unique from other animals, but at the same time the material of tusks makes us want to kill them for it. I partly agree with taking them off the elephant after it naturally dies but at the same time, why JUST hunt? I think they such farm them or raise them as pets, when they die, they can take the tusks! So, should they farm them and raise them as pets?

  5. I think that is very wrong but it is how they can make some money. That still doesn't mean it’s right. I researched that one of the key differences between African and Asian elephants are the tusks. All African elephants, male and female, have tusks whereas only some Asian males have tusks. About 50% of Asian females have short tusks known as tushes which have no pulp inside. Would you ever kill one of these animals just for the money?

  6. When I was reading an articular about poaching the articular was talking about an elephant named Mshale. The injured, lonely animal was attacked by four unknown poachers and managed to survive the attack by fleeing at the right time. About 1,500 elephants are killed each year in Tsavo National Park alone and 36,000 are killed each year for their tusks in Africa. Many of these animal get killed for no reason i mean you can easily wait till these animals die or about to just to preserve life instead of killing these insist animals.
