South Sudan-Barely Out Of One Civil War And Into Another

OK, so for those of you who have no idea where South Sudan is or what the heck is going on I understand. South Sudan is the world’s newest country and created a big brouhaha on an international scale when it became an independent nation on July 9, 2011 by winning the Sudanese Civil War. So for those of  you who don't know where it is just check this map
Anyway recently South Sudan is on the brink of a civil war. The conflict is between the Dinka ethnic group dominated government and military led by president Salva Kiir and the Nuer ethnic group dominated rebels led by former vice president Riek Machar. The conflict began when Kiir fired his cabinet and later security forces backing the two exchanged fire and Kiir accused Machar of launching a coup.

In summary an African nation has broken out into a one ethnic group versus another ethnic group conflict. Can anyone say Rwanda?

  1. Scary stuff...that's for sure. This is where Riak's father was born. Ask him about the conflict.
