Africa is the world's oldest populated continent. Before colonialism, Africa was made up of more than 10,000 different states with their own individual languages and cultures. All of Africa was later colonized except for Ethiopia and Liberia. Africa now has 54 countries and one "self-governing territory," western Sahara.
