The Sleeping Scare

The Sleeping Scare

The sleeping sickness, or in this case African trypanosomiasis, is a parasitic disease transferred by the sneaky tsetse fly.  This disease is very harmful, which means as soon as you feel sick you should find medication. Early in the disease, it is low toxicity and easier to help. Fortunately, the earlier the disease is treated, more of a chance it will be cured. You're probably taking in all this information, and getting nervous, but no need to be. For example, the tsetse flies are in 36 sub-Saharan Africa countries and not in the U.S. I think that sleeping sickness is very scary and harmful! For one thing, they should start researching on how to make a vaccine for the more toxic stages of sleeping sickness. What would you want to know more about sleeping sickness?

  1. That does seem scary. I agree that they should work on treatment for the more toxic stages of sleeping sickness. What type of symptoms occurs during sleeping sickness? Are they doing anything to stop the tsetse fly? If so, what? Why is there more of a chance that it will be cured during the early stages? I heard that most people exposed to tsetse flies live in rural areas and depend mostly on agriculture. I have also heard that it is a very hard disease to cure and involves a very skilled staff.
