What in the wold is sleeping sickness? You might ask, well it's a current disease caused by tsetse flies. Or in this case mosquitoes. The flies transmit the disease by the best way the can, sucking your blood! The flies are mostly found in sub-Saharan Africa. The symptoms (of the infectious diseases) are joint pains, itching, fevers, and headaches. The disease occurs only in 36 sub-Saharan African countries. Throughout the African villages there have been about 98% of reports about the deaths caused by the sleeping sickness, also known as human African trypanosomiasis. There are ways to prevent the sickness witch would be antibiotics or any type of treatment. So, how would you react if you found out you had the disease? Horrible right? Lastly do you think mosquitoes are useless in the world? I know I do :)

Sleeping sickness - ugh. There are definitely new treatments now to fight against the sickness, but they're highly complex...did you know that in 2009, the amount of people who contracted sleeping sickness dropped below 10,000 people for the first time in FIFTY YEARS? (To 9878 people, in fact, due to new precautionary actions taken against the disease.) I would definitely freak out if I found out I had the sleeping sickness - I would call an ambulance before you could say 'tsetse'! Mosquitoes are certainly annoying, but I wouldn't say they're useless...why do you think so?
