Eye For An Eye? More Like Lie For A Lie!
(By: Ramy Abdalla-Ali)
I think that the eye for an eye is a bunch of nonsense. It’s obviously the worst law ever and it’s not fair in some cases. Like for instance if you’re a surgeon and your patient dies you get your hand cut off! That makes no sense what if it was an honest mistake; you would still get your arm sawed off. I highly dislike this rule it is certainly not fair in many cases. If someone stole from you would you get that item back? Or would you get to take something equal or with greater value? There are many things and questions like that throughout the law depending on the situation.

I agree that it is a bunch of nonsense but it still could do some good. Like you said, “If you were a surgeon and your patient dies you would get your hand cut off,” I agree that that is bad but the law could possibly cut down on all the killings that go on.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you a little bit. I do think that in some cases it wouldn't be fair but at that time it was better than what other rulers did. Hammurabi set the law eye for an eye which means that if you did something to break the laws he made which were written then you had to have a punishment that was equal to your crime. Other rulers made up their rules not on paper and could say off with your head if they wanted even if it wasn't fair. If you were a ruler what laws and punishments would you have?
