We've all heard racist remarks, whether in school, in public, or just by walking down the street. Some of these remarks might have even been aimed towards you or your friends...but can you say that you were racially offended by big-time NBA coach Donald Sterling? Maybe YOU can't, but unfortunately others can.
Racism has been around as long as anyone can remember; slavery, snide remarks, and segregation has been doled out to people of different color since time began. But it's still here today, and despite our best efforts it's strong out on the courts and fields of pro sports. Take Donald Stirling to mind; he leaked racist comments on the internet and is now paying the price - the very hefty price, in fact, of a 2.5 million dollar fine and a lifetime ban from any NBA activity, including practices and games.
But did the NBA do the right thing for slamming Donald Stirling out of the court? In my opinion, they did. It's flat-out wrong to bully a person because of the color of their skin - which, by the way, they can't control - and especially to mock someone of having false talent because of their pigmentation. Paying huge fines and giving lifelong punishments is an eye opener to racists, and will hopefully cut down on the amount of bullying that our different races have. People shouldn't HAVE to do more; in fact, people shouldn't have to do anything! But in the face of the situation, I think that the fans and other coaches handled the predicament well. (Big shout-out to Dani Alves for eating the banana that someone chucked at him.)
What do you think? Did Donald Stirling get evicted unfairly?
