For this blog post I chose to write about Sri Lanka because
I was born there. There are two main festivals in Sri Lanka Vesak, and the Sri
Lankan New Year. Vesak is a celebration to commemorate Buddha’s birth,
enlightenment, and death. During this celebration the children make special
lamps, which are awesome, and the families all go to the temples located in
each village or city. This festival falls on the May full moon day. The New
Year is a huge event in Sri Lanka, there are many celebrations, and they make a
ton of sweets and I am not exaggerating! This day/festival is in April because
they go by solar calendars. One of the most important activities in Sri Lanka,
that every child must play at least once, is cricket, of course! Some other
things kids do in Sri Lanka for fun are going to the elephant orphanage, beaches,
and playing with their friends outdoors. In Sri Lanka, there are various types
of fruits and vegetables, most of them I have never seen in the U.S. Some of my
favorite Sri Lankan foods are koththu roti, appam, indiappam, watalappam, dhal,
Wada, and of course rice! Rice and curries are basically a staple food in most
South Indian countries. Would you like to visit Sri Lanka when they are in the middle of a festival?
