Pretty Camels

Have you ever seen a camel in a beauty contest?  Well, in India you can see about 50,000 camels that may be pretty enough to enter a beauty contest. This is what you'll find in India's Pushkar Camel Fair.  If you would like to attend this festival, it is 5 days long and this year it is October 30 through November 6.

The festival involves camel trading and also religious rituals.  Fun events for the camels are being shaved, races, dressed up, beauty contests and trading of camels.  Here is a program from last year's fabulous event.  After the camel related activities, the festival moves on to the religous rituals.  Some of the rituals are bathing in holy water, a spiritual walk and temple dances.  But frankly, I would go for the camel beauty contest because they are such fine creatures.  Would you go to the Pushkar Camel Fair?

  1. I personally would not go to a camel festival. I can't see how camels can look different than other camels. I found out that 400,000 people visit the Pushkar Camel Fair in a period of fourteen days. That's a lot of people! there are about 11,000 camels, horses, and cattle. It sounds like a boring event for me. Maybe it would be cool for about 1 hour. Don't you think it would get boring?

  2. As an animal lover I disagree with James. I think getting to see a bunch of camels dressed up would be hilarious! Camels have been used as a mode of transportation for thousands of years and over time some groups have been domesticated and not only used for transportation, but also as companions. So to them this is no different than a horse or dog show. Camels are just plain awesome; and can live up to fifty years! I know I would love to go see all the camels that are participating in races and contests. Who wouldn't be entertained by that? *Apparently not James*
