SRI LANKA FOOD,CULTURE,AND FESTIVITY................AND MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Social Studies Post: Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka, a country that sits in the Indian ocean right off the southeast tip of India. Sri Lanka is full of culture.  They have many different foods, as well as drinks, that they enjoy. However, two in particular stood out to me. I first chose a beer called "toddy'', which is an alcoholic drink made out of fermented palm nectar. The second one that interested me was ''udowel", a deep fried coil of urauddal, and a rice flour mixture. Something else that intrigued me was the table etiquette used among sri lankans, during the meals, the women eat last. Also, sri lankans mostly dine with their right hand. Would you like to dine with the people of Sri Lanka?

  1. Yes, I definitely would like to dine with Sri Lankans. It is actually easier to eat rice when you eat with you hand. It is frowned upon to eat with your left hand. Actually it is believed to be disrespectful if you eat with your left hand when you're eating with people you don't know that well, but it is fine to eat with your left hand in private. In Sri Lanka what usually happens is that the women and children eat first then the men eat last, but that it is from my experience with the "formal" dinners. There is an exception to the rule if you're in a religious setting, say a temple, and you brought a dinner for a dahna the monks have to eat first. The people who brought the offering have to serve the monks food and bring them water but that is only if you are giving an offering. Anyways, I would love to dine with the people of Sri Lanka considering that I am Sri Lankan.
