In Thailand every twelve months when there is a new moon they have an incredible Yee Ping festival of lights. The celebration is held all through out Thailand and this years celebration will be held on Thursday, November 06, 2014.I think this celebration seems really interesting and breathtaking because what they do is light lanterns that are released at night which are displayed everywhere through houses and temples. However, that's not the only thing they do to celebrate they also have krathong which is an offering that has many different things including banana stalks and incents that they float down rivers. This seems like an incredible experience that maybe I would one day like to experience. Would you ever want to visit?

This is very similar to an Asian festival where you light a candle and put it in a lantern that then flies into the sky. They also light a candle and but it in little paper boats or lotus flowers. In fact I think it's the same and it's just that it's the Thailand version. The Chinese version is called the lantern festival and is celebrated on the 15th day of the first month in the lunar calender.
ReplyDeleteWow, really that is amazing I wish they did something like that in America. Do they only do it every twelve months or every month because we usually get a full moon every one month or so? Did you know that they celebrate on the 6th but the main celebration goes through from the fifth through to the seventh where all of Thailand celebrates the full moon so it is a lot like the Asian Festival?
ReplyDeleteYes, I think that it would be very fun to go the Yee Ping festival, did you know that they launch thousands of Sky Lanterns into the air almost at once, creating a beautiful sky that almost looks light the sun is shining, since there are so many lanterns. If I was there than I would for sure want to launch one, I wonder how for how far around you can see the giant fountain of lanterns. All know is I would not want to be the one who wanted to clean up that mess how do you think they clean it up?
ReplyDeleteThis festival sounds very interesting! I've done some research and found that lanterns are the substitute of water vessels. It's also a tribute to Buddha. A krathong sounds interesting also! I also found that when they release the lanterns in the sky, they wish for something they have always wanted. Sometimes, even in America people write wishes on lanterns and send them all. If I was ever in China when this festival was going on, I would definitely go! Would you ever go to a festival like this?
