An eye for something unequal to an eye

     I wonder why Hammurabi decided to make a law intended fairly all crapped up. For example if a slave struck his owner "his ear shall be cut off." Slaves value is not in his ear and he should not be a slave in the first place. I believe he meant it to be fair. It just ended up being really unfair. Also it's like men are separated by class. How would a man be classified as a gentleman?

    Wow! I agree with you for part of that, I mean if the slave hit the master. The servant should not be punished for the deed, but I think the servant should be punished but not that cruelly, maybe like extra woks he/she has to perform after their normal shift is done. A man might be classified as gentlemen, when he comes of age to participate in manly events, like coming to sporting events or being in the council. Why don't women get as many rights as men back then?

    I also agree about that because I don’t think it’s fair for someone to be punished that severely. I mean if they hit their boss then they would be punished but not like that. They should like work extra hours so they would make up for it but cutting there ear off that is just not right. What would you do if your worker had struck you?
